Make certain you are getting the "good stuff." Some authors are better than others. One thing I always do before I start preparing for a test, is I start reading reviews for the books I intend to read. I hate to think how many exams I've failed over the years.

When you pass those test consistently with better than about 92% then your ready. When you miss questions figure out why and study those things that will help you to pass them next time around. Being able to do it in a timely manner is crucial. Take a small break and then re read all the material.(maybe a different book) Use the tester in the back of the Cisco books and take it on test simulation mode.make it exactly like the test. My advice to you is don't give up.Just keep grinding away at it. My degree.cis/networking.I even went to the CCNA academy.Net+?.got it. Your situation is almost the same as mine was at one time. Know the book but know the equipment and be comfortable with it. I find the more you spend with the lab the easier it gets. My first 3 attempts were just about what your making. I could quote the book from memory by the time I was done. I had to read that book 6 times, do all the labs boson had, and then use the physical lab for stuff boson wouldn't do.
I personally bought the cisco press books (odom), boson simulator, and a physical lab. Some people can just read the book once study a bit and go pass the test. If its what you love to do then just commit to it and keep going. Don't let a silly test decide if your right for networking or not. I failed the CCNA 3 times.BEFORE I PASSED. Does this mean I shouldn't do Networking?
