The new version has so many new features which include easier GUI for Centerline and vessel tracking, the thumbnails are now in higher resolution than before and there is now a link to full DICOM definitions. Other exciting features are the anonymization of records, wireless transmission of data to another instance of the app, and full support for plug-ins that extend the app’s capabilities. Individual entries can be shared via various forms including e-mail, DVD, or by manually exporting them out of the application as video material or as DICOM files. The database can be worked upon, which means you can search, filter and sort patient details and reports can still be created for each patient as you deem fit. When adding patient records on the app, you have two options that you can choose you can either copy all the information of the patient to the database, or just link to it to save disk space on your device. OsiriX has been designed to practically run on any hardware but using it on a multiprocessor device will give a better and a more accurate result. There is also a patient database that a medical professional can use to monitor the status of multiple patients. It is equipped with every feature that a medical professional will need to look and interpret. OsiriX can be used to display data obtained from various medical equipment, there is the trial edition that gives a medical professional a preview of what to expect from the app.
OsiriX is able to receive images transferred by DICOM communication protocol from any PACS or imaging modality (C-STORE SCP/SCU, and Query/Retrieve: C-MOVE SCU/SCP, C-FIND SCU/SCP, C-GET SCU/SCP, and WADO).
It is fully compliant with the DICOM standard for image communication and image file types. OsiriX for Mac is an image processing program specially designed for DICOM images (“.dcm” / “.DCM” extension) produced by imaging equipment (MRI, CT, PET, PET-CT, SPECT-CT, Ultrasounds,).
